Isuzu D-Max EV Makes Global Debut: Design, Performance, Range, and India Launch Prospects

Send Push

Birmingham, May 2, 2025 — Isuzu has officially unveiled the all-electric version of its popular pickup truck, the D-Max EV, at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham. Marking the Japanese automaker’s first foray into electric pickup trucks, the D-Max EV blends rugged utility with electrified efficiency, targeting both commercial and lifestyle buyers.

The electric variant was earlier showcased in concept form at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo 2025, and now takes its production-ready form with global rollouts underway. However, the India launch timeline remains unconfirmed.

Rugged Yet Refined: Design & Body Options

At a glance, the D-Max EV retains the bold, muscular stance that defines its diesel-powered sibling. However, subtle design tweaks help set the electric version apart:

  • Closed-off grille with aerodynamic refinements

  • Redesigned LED headlamps and futuristic dual-tone alloy wheels

  • Two body styles: Double Cab and Extended Cab, catering to personal and business use

These visual cues signal its electric identity while maintaining the D-Max’s utilitarian DNA.

Performance & Specifications: Dual Motor Power

The D-Max EV is built on a 66.9 kWh battery platform paired with a dual-motor configuration, delivering:

  • 190 hp of peak power

  • 325 Nm of torque

  • 0–100 kmph in 10.1 seconds

  • Top speed of 128 kmph

The battery setup is mounted under the floor, enhancing vehicle stability and weight distribution. The claimed range stands at 263 km on a single charge, suitable for urban deliveries and moderate-duty operations.

Global production has started in Thailand, with left-hand drive models prioritized initially.

Interior and Features: Quieter, Smarter Ride

While Isuzu hasn’t fully disclosed the interior layout, early insights suggest a significant upgrade in cabin quality. Key expected enhancements include:

  • Premium interior materials

  • Larger touchscreen infotainment system

  • Improved NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels, reportedly reduced by 10%

  • Upgraded ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite (specific features yet to be announced)

These updates aim to make the D-Max EV a more refined and technology-forward offering than its ICE predecessor.

India Launch Timeline: Still Uncertain

Despite its global debut and rising EV momentum in India, Isuzu has not confirmed a launch date for the Indian market. The current production is focused on left-hand drive markets, and a right-hand drive variant would need to be developed before Indian introduction. Given the strategic importance of India’s light commercial vehicle sector, a localized rollout could follow in late 2025 or early 2026, pending regulatory and infrastructure developments.
