Udupi: In a case of in-transit theft, a passenger traveling on the Matsyagandha Express from Mumbai to Udupi reported the loss of diamond jewellery and cash after an overnight journey.
The victim, identified as Vijay H. Rao from Maharashtra, was traveling on the Matsyagandha Express on April 7. He had placed his suitcase and hand baggage under the seat, while keeping a vanity bag—containing gold and diamond ornaments weighing 138 grams and Rs 8,000 in cash—near his head as he slept.
On the morning of April 8, as the train arrived at Indrali railway station in Udupi, Rao discovered that the vanity bag had been stolen. The theft is suspected to have occurred during the night while the passenger was asleep.
A case has been registered at the Manipal police station, and investigations are underway.
