NEW DELHI: As Israel launched retaliatory missile strikes on Iran , India has said it is deeply concerned about the evolving escalation in Middle East and its ramifications for peace and stability in the region and beyond.
The ministry of external affairs reiterated India's call to all concerned to exercise restraint and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy. "The ongoing hostilities are to nobody's benefit, even as innocent hostages and civilian populations continue to suffer. Our Missions in the region are in contact with the Indian community," it said. There are around 10,000 Indian nationals in Iran.
PM Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had in a meeting on Friday underscored the need to prevent the conflict from escalating and spilling over in the region.
