MUMBAI: In the ongoing probe in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique , Mumbai crime branch on Sunday arrested another key accused involved in the crime, taking the number of arrests to 10.

The Anti Extortion Cell arrested Bhagwant Omsingh (32), who runs a scrap shop in Belapur in Navi Mumbai. Amid tight security, he was produced before Holiday court and remanded to police custody till October 26.

Public prosecutor Randdhir Yelaave said Bhagwant played a key role in aiding and abetting with the other accused. "It is a serious offence and the accused not only provided shelter to the shooters, but he along with another key accused, Ramphoolchand Kanojia, travelled to Udaipur and ferried the weapons and handed over to the three shooters. We also want to investigate the financial aspects as to how much money each member received to carry out the shootout." he told the court.

The gang had provided three weapons - Turkish, an Australian and a countrymade pistol - to the shooters who killed former minister last Saturday. Yelaave added police want to interrogate the accused to trace the person who provided him these weapons and on whose behalf. Police said Bhagwant is from Uttar Pradesh, but he could be part of the Maharashtra module of Bishnoi gang .

In a week, police have arrested 10 accused, including the two shooters - Gurmail Singh and Dharmaraj Kashyap while the key shooter Shivkumar Gautam managed to flee. Police said there is a commonality of scrap business. While Lonkar ran a milk dairy, he had provided his adjoining shop in Pune to Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam, who ran a scrap shop.
