NEW DELHI: The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the People's Conference on Friday raised concerns over a reported resolution by the Jammu and Kashmir government. The resolution, which calls on the Centre to restore Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, has been described by the PDP as a "huge setback." The party attacked the resolution for failing to address the restoration of Article 370 .
A Jammu-based newspaper, 'Daily Excelsior,' reported that the cabinet passed the resolution and that the chief minister will present it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
However, there has been no official confirmation of this report so far.
Waheed Parra, PDP youth president and MLA-elect from Pulwama, commented on X, " Omar Abdullah 's first resolution on statehood is nothing less than ratification of the August 5, 2019 decision. No resolution on Article 370 and scaling down the demand to mere statehood is a huge setback, especially after seeking votes on the promise of restoring Article 370."
People's Conference supremo Sajad Lone also questioned the secrecy surrounding the resolution, saying, "I hope the CS (chief secretary) of Jammu and Kashmir has notified as it is the protocol."
Lone, who is MLA-elect from Handwara, argued that such resolutions should be passed in the Assembly, not just the cabinet. "The will of the people of J&K is reflected in the Assembly and not in the cabinet," he said on X.
He also referred to a past resolution on autonomy passed by the Assembly, questioning, "What has changed now? Fail to understand why this resolution should not have been reserved for Assembly. Why are we so keen to trivialise everything?"
Lone emphasised that the National Conference (NC) should adhere to its election manifesto, which promises to restore Articles 370 and 35A and statehood as prior to August 5, 2019. He said, "We are not demanding or expecting anything extraordinary. Do what you promised the people of J&K in your manifesto."

Apparently the cabinet has passed a resolution on statehood. This is as per the headlines of an authentic newspaper based out of Jammu.

In wonderment why should a resolution on statehood passed by the cabinet be shrouded in mystery and secrecy — that only one newspaper…
