NEW DELHI: When Sai Sudharsan ambled across to complete his double century against Delhi on Day One of their Ranji Trophy on Friday afternoon, the glee on Gujarat Titans’ director of cricket Vikram Solanki’s face was unmistakable.

For all his promise, Sudharsan hasn’t quite been the most prolific batter for Tamil Nadu . On Friday, however, he demonstrated why he is rated so highly in Indian cricket circles as he walked off unbeaten on 202 off 259 balls. His effort put Tamil Nadu in a dominant position at 379/1 at stumps.

The pitch at the Kotla wore a significant green and promised good carry. Delhi captain Himmat Singh opted to bowl only for Sudharsan, his opening partner N Jaga deesan and Washington Sundar to run them ragged through the day.

Only Navdeep Saini looked like posing some threat to the three Tamil Nadu batters. Saini got the only breakthrough of the day when skipper Jagadeesan chopped on to his stumps in the 40th over for 65. Over the next 49 overs, S udharsan and Washington put on 210 runs pretty much untroubled.

Washington remained unbeaten on 96 at stumps.
