Key to Cardinals’ playoff hopes

Marvin Harrison Jr.’s injury in the second quarter seemed to spell doom for the Cardinals’ playoff hopes. After a collision with Packers CB Jaire Alexander left him concussed, many wondered if the rookie would recover in time for the upcoming game against the Chargers .

However, hope reignited when Harrison Jr. shed the yellow non-contact jersey on Friday, confirming he cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol. His return is crucial for the Cardinals as they aim to turn their season around.

As the No. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft, Harrison Jr. has made an explosive impact in his first six games, racking up 17 receptions for 279 yards and four touchdowns. His contributions have helped elevate the Cardinals from 24th to 17th in points per game, showcasing his significance to the team.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon expressed optimism about Harrison Jr.’s quick recovery, noting how fortunate he is compared to other players like Eagles WR DeVonta Smith and Giants WR Malik Nabers, who both spent two weeks in concussion protocol.

With the season still young, Harrison Jr.’s talent continues to shine, earning him praise from coaches and teammates alike.

Marvin Harrison Jr. receives high praise from former coaches

Before Marvin made his way to the NFL, he joined St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in 2018, where he caught the eye of his former WR coach, Ryne Morrison. Having finished with 20 catches for 254 yards and 5 TDs against LaSalle (Prep’s biggest rival), Morrison noted, “Knew how talented he was. We coached against him the year before. Obviously he was only a freshman, but he played a pretty big role for those guys, and they gave us a little bit of a scare when he was a freshman. So I knew, obviously, how tremendously talented he was, the pedigree he had.”

Even his Prep head coach, Tim Roken, recognized the expectations surrounding him: “I think he knew the expectations that people set for him on the outside, because of who his father was, but he wanted to set them higher. He wanted to be the best that he can be himself, and the best ever. That’s always been his focus.” As Harrison navigates his rookie season in the NFL, the question looms: can he meet the high expectations placed upon him? With six weeks of action already showcasing his explosive potential, we may soon have the answer.
