Karwa Chauth 2024: Can Unmarried Women observe Karva Chauth fast? Know Rituals

As we all know that Karwa Chauth festival is around the corner and women are preparing to celebrate this day with immense joy and enthusiasm. This day holds a great religious significance among married Hindu women as they observe fast on this sacred day for the well being and longevity of their husbands. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated across the country on October 20, 2024, Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in Kartik Month.

There are many unmarried women out there, who often have this query that unmarried women can also observe this fast or not?

So, people should understand the fact that Karwa Chauth falls on Chaturthi Tithi, known as Sankashti Chaturthi Tithi which is celebrated by Lord Ganesha devotees across the country. And Karwa Chauth also falls on the same day, which is dedicated to Chauth Mata or Gauri Mata and women offer prayers to both of them and seek blessings.

It is mentioned in Hindu Scriptures that this fast is not only for the married women, it can be observed by any women who is unmarried or eligible to get married. They can also keep fast on this auspicious day and worship Maa Gauri and Lord Ganesha so that they can also get the desired life partner or husband. It is not mentioned anywhere that the Karwa Chauth fast will only be observed by married women.

This is a most revered and sacred fast in which women pray to Maa Gauri for the well being and good fortune while unmarried pray to the Goddess to get the desired wish fulfillments and seek blessings.

As we have heard in scriptures, that Maa Gauri performed strict penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband and she did not have food and water for thousands of years just to get her desired wish fulfillment so it is clearly written in our holy Scriptures that if a woman want to get someone they love, or to get "Mann Vancchit Var" they can perform various puja ritual that includes Karwa Chauth Vrat also. Gauri Mata is the ultimate divine feminine energy and all woman represents that form of a shakti, who has the capability to turn their misfortune to fortune and if they get this chance, do not miss it and perform all puja rituals as much you can.

Karwa Chauth Puja Rituals for Unmarried Women

1. Women wake up early in the morning. Take holy bath before starting puja rituals.
2. They can eat something if they want to before sunrise and they must take this fast as other fast.
3. Wear nice clean clothes but avoid wearing black, blue, white and cream colours on this day.
4. If you are observing this fast then make sure you should have deep faith in your heart and also have pure intentions.
5. Take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Parvati along with Lord Shiva.
6. Light a diya with desi ghee in front of the idol and keep a kalash filled with water.
7. Offer Durva grass to Lord Ganesha, present shringar items to Maa Gauri and recite Karwa Chauth Katha, and Bindayak Ji Ki Kahani.
8. Offer flowers, and wheat seeds and durva grass and tie it in your dupatta.
9. Spend your day, chanting Goddess Gauri Mantras and seek blessings.
10. In the evening they can break their fast after worshipping Moon God.
