It is not uncommon for fights to occur between celebrities in any film industry, especially in Bollywood. Here’s a throwback to the time when Karan Johar made a remark towards Priyanka Chopra, which shocked the audience.
An old rumoured feud
An old video of filmmaker Karan Johar taking a sharp jibe at global icon Priyanka Chopra has resurfaced online, reigniting discussions around their once-rumoured feud. The clip, which is from an episode of Koffee With Karan aired in 2017, has shocked netizens with its tone, prompting fresh backlash against Johar.“You're a Bollywood actress, know your place”
In the viral snippet, just before the rapid-fire round, Karan is heard saying, “We’ve heard all about your Hollywood achievements… Now, this is where the real fun begins. That’s why we called you on the couch.” He then adds, “Bohot ho gayi tumhari taarif. Ho gaya tumhara global achievement. Hindi film actress ho, apni aukaat mein raho.( "That's enough talk about your global fame. You're a Bollywood actress—know your place.")
“I picked up the phone and reacted like a pressure cooker”
The feud between Karan and Priyanka dates back to 2012 when Johar tweeted strongly worded posts, believed to be targeted at her. Later, in a conversation with us, Karan admitted he reacted impulsively back then but later called Priyanka to resolve things, acknowledging that, as the elder one, he needed to act maturely. He told us, “I picked up the phone and reacted like a pressure cooker. Then I realised it wasn’t worth it. I called her and said I was turning 40. I have a great EQ (emotional quotient) with her. I’ve shared several warm moments with PeeCee. Since I am the older one, I decided to be mature."
Priyanka, in 2023, also addressed feeling “sidelined” in Bollywood during her appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast, saying she left the industry due to politics and lack of opportunities.
On the work front, Priyanka Chopra is set to appear next in SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated film alongside Mahesh Babu.
