Actress and spiritual influencer Sofia Hayat has penned an open letter to Salman Khan in response to the backlash surrounding his pairing with significantly younger actress Rashmika Mandanna in the upcoming film Sikandar. The letter, shared on social media, addresses concerns over the repeated portrayal of older male actors romancing much younger women on screen, and calls for a more evolved and conscious approach to storytelling in Indian cinema.
“Dear Salman,” Sofia began, “I hear you are getting trolled for your new movie because you are romancing a woman who is young enough to be your daughter. I actually don't have a problem with this — an adult is an adult.” However, she went on to express disappointment over the lack of growth in the narratives presented, particularly given Salman’s influence over Indian audiences.
She reflected on the era of timeless romantic pairings such as Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, which, in her view, offered more genuine portrayals of love. She accused the current trends of being narcissistic and formulaic, adding, “Your movies are on a kind of loop, trying desperately to convince your evolved audiences that what you are doing... is a way to help younger actors.”
Sofia also touched upon Salman’s alleged industry influence, writing, “You are the man everyone has to say yes to, or their careers are destroyed.” Recalling her own experience, she noted, “Even I was told this when I entered Bigg Boss.”
In a heartfelt suggestion, Sofia encouraged Salman to consider a more mature romantic storyline in future films. “Not only would you educate the masses... but you would make a woman feel seen. That’s a true hero,” she concluded.
Her letter sparked mixed reactions online.
