Jaipur: A special team of Jodhpur police Sunday arrested a woman and her husband in connection with the 2021 Rajasthan Police Sub-inspector Recruitment Examination scam. The woman acted as a dummy candidate for Rs 15 lakh.
According to IG (Jodhpur) Vikas Kumar, the authorities arrested Indra Bishnoi (27), from Kheme Ka Kuan in Jodhpur. Her spouse, Narpat Ram (29), was caught from a wine shop in Goa where he was employed. The special operations group (SOG) took both into custody.
The arrests were made after questioning Harkhu Jat, who had passed the SI exam using a dummy candidate. During questioning, she revealed meeting Indra at a library and, due to academic problems, requested her to sit for the examination. Indra, known for her academic prowess, accepted. "Indra previously cleared the RAS preliminary exam," Kumar said.
After Harkhu ‘successfully' took the exam, Narpat Ram allegedly sought Rs 15 lakh as payment. Indra later disclosed to authorities that she attempted the exam herself but was unsuccessful. She had previously reached the interview stage of the 2018 SI recruitment but was not selected. Her attempts at the RAS examination were also unsuccessful.
"The irony is that Indra was considered academically good. While she cleared the test for Harkhu, she herself failed to clear the exam," said an officer.
The couple disappeared after Harkhu's arrest. Indra sought shelter in Jodhpur while Narpat went to Goa. Investigators discovered Indra's regular visits to Kheme Ka Kuan, from where she contacted her husband. This led to cops deploying teams to both locations.
The police team intercepted Indra just as she was getting redy to escape from her hideout. "Police team reached her location just in time. She was all set to flee to avoid being arrested," Kumar said.
Both accused will be interrogated about their potential involvement in helping others pass the govt exams.
