Confined at Kisan Bhawan, farmer leaders to participate in a meeting with Punjab CM

BATHINDA: Confined at the Kisan Bhawan of Chandigarh for over 24 hours, the farmer leaders have decided to reach for a meeting with Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann and a number of ministers at Punjab Bhawan Chandigarh.

The farmers have also decided to lodge a protest with the chief minister about the treatment meted out to them while they wanted to reach at chief minister residence for a protest.

The farmer leaders are expected to be escorted to Punjab Bhawan by Chandigarh Police under security.

Making allegations of tardy procurement and lift of procured grains from the grain markets in the state, Punjab Chapter of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) had given a call for protest at CM residence on October 18.

Acting on the call, farmers were various parts of the state had headed towards Chandigarh on Friday but they were stopped at various places in the periphery of Chandigarh.

Some of them were detained while many had succeeded in reaching Kisan Bhawan. When they were not allowed to move out of Kisan Bhawan they started protest and demanded release if the detained farmer leaders.

They continued into protest inside the Kisan Bhawan complex and decided to attend the meeting.
In the meanwhile, Punjab food supplies minister Lal Chand Kataruchak stated that over 18 lakh MT paddy has arrived in the Mandi’s out of which over 16 lakh MT has been procured but only 2.6 lakh MT has been lifted and Rs 3000 crore have been deposited into the accounts of farmers.
