Bhubaneswar: A man’s body was found on the railway tracks near Sarakantara under Khandagiri police station limits in the city on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Niranjan Sahoo (23), who was residing with his girlfriend at Subash Nagar slum in Sarakantara, Dumduma, on the city’s periphery. His family has filed a complaint, accusing the girlfriend of killing him.

“The girlfriend’s family had a confrontation with my brother at our home over a financial matter on Wednesday evening. They had threatened him with dire consequences and the following day, his body was discovered on the railway tracks," Niranjan’s brother said.

He added that the body was found lying on the tracks with one of his hands mutilated. “It is evident from the sight that he has not been run over by any train. The scene is orchestrated to create confusion. He was murdered by his girlfriend and her family,” the brother alleged.

Khandagiri police and GRP have registered a case and initiated an investigation on the matter. “We have registered the case based on the complaint lodged by the family members and started an investigation,” Khandagiri police station’s inspector in-charge Abhimanyu Das said.

Last Friday, in a similar incident, a mutilated body of a youth was discovered in the bushes near Khandagiri and Udaygiri caves. Some locals spotted the body and then informed the police, following which it was recovered. Police suspected murder and launched a probe then.
