Vasan Bala’s Jigra was one of the highly-anticipated films of 2024. However, when it arrived at the box office, the response from the audience was lukewarm. Despite decent reviews and appreciation for Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s performances, the film collapsed at the box office.
Vasan Bala deactivates Twitter account Amid Jigra’s declining graph at the box office, Vasan, who directed the jailbreak drama, has deactivated his X (former Twitter) account. When searched for verification, his profile featured a note that, “This account doesn’t exist.” Days before deactivating his X account, Vasan gave his first interview post- Jigra’s release. In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, the director said he does feel he disappointed Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt and all those who worked on the film. Vasan told, “I do feel it. I feel it majorly. I mean, they are supremely supportive, and there is no ounce of letting me feel like this. It is something that I have to grapple with.” ALSO READ: Jigra controversyApart from the low box office collection, Jigra landed in various controversies which started with Vasan saying in an interview that he didn’t like it when producer Karan sent the raw draft of the film to Alia. After its release, Divya Khossla shared an Instagram story showing an empty theatre. She accused the makers of Jigra of presenting fake collections. Divya also alleged that Jigra is copied from her 2024 jailbreak thriller, Savi. However, both films have no connection and Vasan clarified that when Savi was released, Jigra had wrapped and was in the post-production stage. Manipuri actor Bijou ThaangJam broke his silence on the discrimination faced by North East actors in Hindi cinema, citing an example of how the casting director of Jigra blocked his dates but never called him for the shoot.You may also like
