Today marks the final day for Americans to vote for their next President between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump, as more than 160 million voters are anticipated to cast ballots by November 5.Although election day is not a federal holiday, five states—New York, Maryland, West Virginia, Hawaii, and Illinois—have designated November 5 as a public holiday to provide workers time off to vote.Additionally, some of the other states to declare public holiday are New Jersey, Delaware, Rhode Island, Virginia, Michigan, Montana, Louisiana, Kentucky and Indiana. Here's a look at the services that will be available on November 5:

  • Banks nationwide will be open on election day while certain branches may close, according to NBC New York.
  • Post offices, FedEx courier services, and United Parcel Service (UPS) will all be open.
  • In many states, schools might be closed on November 5. Schools in major cities like New York, Washington, DC, and Chicago have declared that they will either close or observe a day off for students on that day.
  • Public transportation, including buses and trains, will continue to run.
  • Majority of state administrative offices and courts will stay closed in states where the voting day is a public holiday.
