Imphal: Nineteen BJP MLAs from Manipur have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to remove Chief Minister N. Biren Singh from the office. The demand comes amid growing political unrest and dissatisfaction with the state’s leadership, particularly concerning its failure to restore peace in the conflict-affected region.Among the signatories are prominent leaders such as Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyavrat Singh, and ministers Thongam Vishwajit Singh and Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The letter follows a key meeting held in Delhi on Tuesday, which brought together MLAs from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities to discuss the escalating situation in Manipur.According to sources, five of the ruling party's MLAs personally delivered the letter to the Prime Minister on Wednesday. The group expressed grave concerns over the state government’s inability to address the ongoing communal violence and restore normalcy, stating that pressure from their constituents is mounting. Many constituents have reportedly been urging their representatives to step down if swift and decisive action is not taken. The MLAs, while reaffirming their commitment to the BJP, highlighted their responsibility to act in the best interest of Manipur and safeguard the party’s standing in the state. They stressed that removing the current chief minister is essential to resolving the crisis."We believe that simply deploying security forces will not bring about a lasting solution to the conflict," the letter stated. The MLAs warned that continued violence and unrest could cause long-term damage to Manipur and tarnish India’s reputation on the international stage. The letter further called for urgent action to initiate peace talks, involving all stakeholders, to pave the way for reconciliation and lasting peace. The MLAs emphasized the need to remove barriers to dialogue and create an environment conducive to constructive discussions.
