Stars you might have missed in James Bond movies including Madonna and Desperate Housewife

The films made stars out of many actors, including Daniel Craig, Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan. Over the past 61 years, there have been a grand total of 12 stars stepping into the 007 spy's shoes.

What some fans of the movie franchise might not realise is that other famous famous have popped up along the way, surprisingly starring alongside the cast.

Huge names such as pop sensation and were just some of the most memorable stars to make appearances.

Other actors you may have forgotten about include Ab Fab's Joanna Lumley, and Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher.

Here using research from Betway, we take a look at eight big names that you might have missed when watching the iconic British spy order his 'shaken not stirred' drinks.

image Madonna - Die Another Day

Madonna is of course known as the Queen of Pop for her songs Like a Virgin, Like a Prayer, Holiday and Hung Up. She was the brains behind the theme tune of this Bond film, but also appeared on screen for a short cameo.

She took on the role of Verity, a mysterious fencing instructor, as she wore a black leather corset. Her appearance is so brief that Betway discovered Madonna was the biggest name from the Bond franchise that people had forgotten about over the years.

Charles Dance - For Your Eyes Only

After playing an evil henchman alongside , Charles is also known for his roles in Alien 3, The Crown and the HBO series Game of Thrones. Charles made his feature film debut starring as Claus in the 1981 Bond film For Your Eyes Only.

Claus is introduced as a henchman to the film's main villain Aristotle Kristatos (Julian Glover) when Bond is forced to flee on skis as Claus chases him.

David Harbour - Quantum of Solace

David portrayed the character of CIA agent Gregg Beam in Quantum of Solace before his roles in End of Watch and the series Stranger Things. In the 2008 Bond film Quantum of Solace, the actor took on the role of Gregg Beam - the head of the CIA's South American section. However, the character was secretly corrupt, being revealed as an ally to the main antagonist Dominic Greene (Mathieu Almaric).

image Minnie Driver - GoldenEye

After her breakout role in Circle of Friends, Minnie appeared in GoldenEye alongside Pierce Brosnan. Since then, she has gone on to work on many films, including Good Will Hunting - earning her an Oscar nomination.

Minnie played the role of Irina, the mistress of crime boss Valentin Zukovsky (Robbie Coltrane). The character worked as a singer at a club owned by Zukovsky, which is where Bond met her.

Hugh Bonneville - Tomorrow Never Dies

Hugh starred as an Air Warfare Officer in the 1997 film Tomorrow Never Dies and has gone on to star in many films including Notting Hill, Paddington and the drama series Downton Abbey. He was cast as an unnamed minor character in the Bond film, known only as Air Warfare Officer, just three years into his film career.

Sammy Davis Jr. - Diamonds Are Forever

Previously known as the 'greatest living entertainer in the world', Sammy appeared in Diamonds Are Forever in the franchise, as he was seen playing on the roulette table.

While he appeared in initial cuts of Diamonds Are Forever, the star didn't appear in the final film - his scene can be viewed on the DVD extras menu.

Tobias Menzies - Casino Royale

As well as starring as Villiers in Casino Royale, Tobias is well known for his roles in Outlander, Game of Thrones and The Crown - for his portrayal of Prince Philip.

Joanna Lumley - On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Joanna made her film debut in 1969 in On Her Majesty's Secret Service alongside 007 star George Lazenby. Best known for Absolutely Fabulous, Joanna has also starred in The Wolf of Wall Street, Paddington and even .

Back in 1969, she appeared as The English Girl, who was one of Blofeld's Angels of Death. After her appearance in the film, Joanna returned to the Bond franchise, recording abridged versions of the Bond books Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, and Diamonds Are Forever.

Gerard Butler - Tomorrow Never Dies

One of the first big movie gigs for Gerard Butler, known these days for Olympus Has Fallen and 300, was in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies. He showed up briefly aboard the British Royal Navy's HMS Devonshire frigate. At one point, he claims he was also approached to play Bond himself but turned it down, saying that he was too old.

Teri Hatcher - Tomorrow Never Dies

Well known for portraying Lois Lane on the television series Lois & Clark, Teri Hatcher is also known for starring as Susan Mayer in Desperate Housewives and the Other Mother in Coraline.

In Tomorrow Never Dies, Teri played the role of Paris Carver, the ex-lover of Agent 007. Wife of the worldwide media baron, Elliot Carver, Paris has a secret past which proves her undoing. In Tomorrow Never Dies, a relationship with her old flame, James Bond, leads to an untimely demise at the hands of Dr. Kaufman.
