Gary Lineker made a six-word joke as he got his final episode as Match of the Day host up and running on Sunday evening. The 64-year-old is set to depart the BBC following a 25-year stint as presenter of the popular highlights show.
The BBC confirmed at the start of the week that Lineker would leave the corporation earlier than planned after he had apologised for sharing a social media post about Zionism. The post caused widespread offence as it featured a rat, a symbol that has historically been used as an antisemitic insult. The talented presenter had planned to stay with the Beeb for another year to present their FA Cup coverage next season and the 2026 World Cup.
