's sparked backlash with viewers as he interviewed 's during Monday's show.
Jon said: "Everybody is looking ahead to the budget wondering how they're going to be affected, they're looking at themselves and their own working lives and thinking, does that mean I am a working person or not?
"Someone self-employed, has their own business, I don't know, goes out as a window cleaner today, maybe making a small profit, not taking a massive pay but doesn't get a payslip as such, they will consider themselves a working person but they're now going to get clobbered."
McFadden replied: "Well, let's wait to see what the Chancellor says on Wednesday, I can't speculate on the individual measures when you interview someone a day or two before the budget, and we really can't comment on what might be in it."
Fans rushed to social media to rage at Jon's style of questioning, with same accusing him of being jocular with the Cabinet Officer Minister.
One said: "A window cleaner, seriously, Jon Kay is beyond ridiculous."
Another added: "Jon Kay's interview techniques get worse every week, almost jokey." A third raged: "Pathetic journalism," as another insisted: "Let nina do the interviews jon ffs."
Labour have been coming under fire following Starmer's recent vow that the budget would not see "working people" seeing a rise in their taxes, with the term not being given a full definition.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson appeared on Sunday with Laura Kuennssberg to insist the manifesto pledge referred to "whose main source of income is the income they earn from going out to work," but refused to confirm if business owners fell under that category.
She added: "When people look at payslips they will not see higher taxes. That is a very clear commitment," also insisting that the government "break the doom loop of ever higher taxes on working people and lower growth".
