John Crowley on Florence Pugh's Fearless Head-Shaving for We Live in Time

Washington: Director John Crowley recently shared his astonishment over actress Florence Pugh's decision to shave her head for her role in the forthcoming film We Live in Time. Pugh took this daring step without prior consultation, leaving Crowley genuinely surprised.

"She didn't tell anybody [that she was shaving her head]. It was sort of terrifying to me. I was like, 'Wow, that's really ballsy,'" Crowley expressed in an interview. During their initial meeting, Pugh casually mentioned her plans, stating, "Oh, by the way, I want to shave my head." Crowley had anticipated a discussion about how they would handle the head-shaving process.

Although Pugh's new look was ultimately unnecessary due to the pause in production for Marvel's Thunderbolts in June 2023, Crowley appreciated her commitment. He likened her dedication to that of actor Gerard Butler, who had previously championed a smaller independent film.

Pugh's choice to shave her head reflects her commitment to authenticity. She opted against using bald wigs, believing they wouldn’t convey the right appearance. Crowley praised her courage and creativity, noting that her decision was akin to an actor taking a stand for a project without compromising creatively.

We Live in Time, featuring Pugh and Andrew Garfield, marks their first collaboration. Written by Nick Payne, the film delves into themes of love, grief, and redemption. With both actors renowned for their exceptional performances, this film is generating significant anticipation among audiences.
