Sheffield United’s Twitter account was left in chaos after being hacked to poke fun at one of their rivals’ legendary players. Fans started noticing a number of bizarre posts on the Blades’ account on Monday afternoon.
One supporter asked what the hacker thought of star , to which they replied: "washed." A follow-up tweet wrote: “Why so much hate on Barry Bannan? Should I fire him??”
Another read: “Ok i just love barry bannan,” alongside a screenshot of the midfielder, with another offering reading: “I'm following everyone who trash talk barry bannan. I just figured out that he is from another other club.”
Bannan, 35, has been with the Blades’ fierce rivals Sheffield Wednesday since a 2015 move from . He has made nearly 450 appearances for the Yorkshire club, helping the club to promotion from League One in 2023.
The hackers however were keen to move on from Bannan as they followed up with another post reading: “Let's forget Barry Bannan. New topic: MUFC > City.” They also shared a tweet seemingly promoting a cryptocurrency scheme.

Who will win the Championship play-off final?
United will certainly be thankful given that they have plenty to think about this week elsewhere. The Yorkshire side will be aiming to seal an instant return to the this weekend as they take on in the Championship playoff final at Wembley. Chris Wilder’s men failed to seal automatic promotion due to a late-season stutter.
They still managed to book their spot at Wembley in style by beating Bristol City 6-0 on aggregate in the semi finals. United sealed a dominant 3-0 success at Ashton Gate in the first leg before repeating that scoreline at Bramall Lane.
Should the Blades go up at Wembley, it would represent their third promotion to the Premier League in the past six years. Meanwhile, Sunderland are aiming to seal a spot back in the top-flight having been relegated in 2017, while the Black Cats have also dropped into the third tier in that time.
