Netflix's most-watched show was inspired by this iconic movie now streaming for free

A beloved horror movie that inspired one of Netflix's biggest shows is now streaming for free.

Released in November 2022, Wednesday was an instant hit, becoming one of the platform's most-watched English-language series.

currently ranks the drama as Netflix's most popular English show of all time, beating the likes of Stranger Things season four and Bridgerton.

The wildly popular series follows the life of teenager Wednesday Addams, who is based on a character from the famous franchise created by cartoonist Charles Addams.

However, before Netflix took a swing at the franchise, there was another iconic Addams family adaptation, which remains a fan-favourite.

Originally released in 1991, The Addams Family is currently streaming for free on ITVX.

The macabre family first hit screens in a 1964 sitcom and went on to feature in various TV specials and cartoons. However, Paramount Pictures revived the story for a series of films in 1991.

Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, the comedy features an all-star cast including Oscar-winning actress Anjelica Huston, who played the family's mother, Morticia. She is joined by Raúl Julia as family patriarch Gomez, and Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester.

The plot revolves around a fraudster who plans to steal from the Addams family by masquerading as Gomez's long-lost brother Fester. Although the family initially welcome him, Morticia soon begins to suspect that he is not their real relative.

Over 30 years since its debut, viewers are still raving about the dramedy. One fan recently shared their verdict on Google Reviews: "It is absolutely, undeniably one of the best movies in existence."

Another applauded how timeless the film is, writing: "At 30 years old, the movie is a certified classic. It’s dark and spooky and just fun. I loved it when I was a kid and as an adult I just relish the macabre zingers."

A third fan shared raved: "One of my all-time favourite Halloween movies ever. The Addams Family from 1991 is a true classic that I absolutely love.
