Man, 35, plunges to his death in Colombian tourist hotspot 'while trying to take a selfie'

A holidaymaker has tragically fallen to his death while trying to take a selfie at a tourist hotspot in .

Tobias Fischer, 35, tragically died while hiking in the Tatanga district of the South American country on October 19. According to local reports, the tourist tried to take a selfie in the Dumbira forest, with the sea in the background, when he lost his balance and .

He was later found by other hikers, who called the emergency services. However, after being rushed to hospital, Mr Fischer suffered a due to his severe injuries and passed away.

His death has been ruled as an accident. A police spokesperson told local media: "We have been informed that the foreigner fell from a high place while he was walking and was quickly helped by the community, who took him to the emergency room at the Taganga health post."

It is believed the tourist had arrived to the Santa Maria area of Colombia earlier this month as he wanted to explore beaches and mountains. Reports say his family has been notified of the tragedy and is working with authorities to repatriate his body.

Captain Chanan, from local police, said: "We have taken photos of the scene as evidence. As for the cause of the fall, we still have to determine if it was an accident or not. We will be checking the CCTV footage."
