Jamie Carragher's worrying Declan Rice prediction as Mikel Arteta faces Arsenal headache

Jamie Carragher believes won't be questioning Arsenal's capacity to win trophy for at least another 12 months. The midfielder has now gone two years without silverware since moving to the Gunners.

Rice left and opted as he sought to become a serial winner with an side that were clearly on the up. However their near misses have continued and their midweek loss in the means their trophy drought continues.

Arsenal have a host of ambitious players on their books, several of whom would attract interest from rival clubs. Rice is one of them but Carragher doesn't feel as if his patience will be tested just yet.

The England midfielder has enjoyed a standout season, scoring more than ever, and Carragher doesn't expect Rice to be getting cold feet. However another year without success may see the ex-Hammer question whether the Emirates is the right place for him.

He said on : "I don't think right now, I think maybe for other players who've been there a bit longer. But in terms of Declan, I think he's been Arsenal's best player this season. I think those doubts maybe kick in in another 12 months.

"It might be different for like a Saliba, who's been there a bit longer and is desperate to get his hands on some silverware. They all feel they're close, and they are very close, but we all know the final step is the biggest one."

When he first joined the Gunners Rice made it clear that he wanted to be judged on his trophy cabinet. He said: "I know this squad is so hungry to win stuff. We are young and hungry and have a lot of energy. Off the back of last season, they will have learned a lot so this year, with all the competitions we are going into, there is one aim and that is to win, not just to take part."

Arsenal are expected to invest heavily yet again this summer - with a striker their priority - in an effort to become English champions for the first time since 2004. Should they finish second this term it will be the third successive year in which they've done so.
