Jedward! You’ve done CBB twice, what’s it like in there?
John: It’s like ! You don’t know who’s going to be round the corner. We made – we’ve known her 14 years now. The second time, people were playing games and tried to start drama to stay relevant. We stayed true to ourselves. Some nights got wild – everyone drinking, drama in the smoking area, and people waking up seriously hungover. It’s a mindf**k – the sleep deprivation, food drama, losing track of time. Even small things like the thermostat can set people off.
What’s something about the house no one really knows?
Edward: When nighttime hits, all hell breaks loose. We didn’t drink, but some contestants would be drinking so much – at one point a girl was frying her microphone in the kitchen. The next day everyone would be totally hungover in the smoking area, on a big comedown. Some contestants clearly produce themselves for TV – you’d cry and someone you’d never spoken to would come over – it would be like, “Bitch you’re just trying to get airtime!”
What about romance in there?
Edward: We could have had loads of showmances but we didn’t entertain them. There are lots of condoms in there – they have a stash in the bathroom! The producers have high hopes they’ll get used. There were hilarious moments. Once, John ran out of underpants, so gave him her thong.
John: Another thing that didn’t air is that when we were entering the house, I fell off the stage. I hit my back and had to go to hospital for tests. At the time, they gave me a scary diagnosis that I could have cancer. After the series, it was checked and it was fine. But I went through the experience thinking I was going to die.
What do you think of the casting for the new series?
John: We’re sick of all these unknowns. Let’s get and Meghan in. Meghan could do some cooking. Let’s have a Spice Girl – Mel B always brings the vibes. And , give her a break from the family – she can do DIY. We’d like to see , without a tan. He might get pale in there.
You were reportedly paid £1 million – more than any housemate ever! How did you spend it?
Edward: We didn’t splurge. We helped our family, did loads of touring and endorsements, paid our taxes. We’re not big spenders. It felt like Monopoly money. But the value was real – even stars like Niall Horan and watched us!
Your bestie Gemma Collins starred in the show, too. Would you return together?
John: Yes! It would be TV gold. The three of us would slay it. Every time comes back around, we bond over the madness. When said , Gemma came to our defence, it was really refreshing to have someone to back us up. All we ever did was bring positivity to Louis’ life, and he didn’t return the favour. We’re just glad we got out of that situation early. We wish him well, but we’ve moved on.
What are some of your wildest nights with Gemma?
Always nights that go until sunrise. In Dublin, we brought Gemma around Temple Bar in a horse and carriage – people thought they were hallucinating. We stayed in a hotel where once stayed, and they rolled out the red carpet for her. It’s like being with royalty. Then we spontaneously went to Paris and stayed at The Ritz. Sometimes we do crazy stuff, other times it’s walks with the or takeout nights. Sometimes I feel like I’m in an episode of . Actually, Gemma would be amazing in or Corrie!
You once crossed paths with , didn’t you?
Edward: Yep! The three of us were at the pub, and there’s , with his man bun. John was walking Gemma’s dog, Blue, and Blue jumped in Harry’s lap. We sat and chatted about people we both know. He’s rocking a Jedward quiff now!
Tell us more about domestic life with Gemma...
Edward: At one point John and Gemma were looking for houses. Gemma wanted to move near us, and we were looking at houses together. When we moved to London, Gemma gave us a room’s worth of furniture. Now our entire living room is pink.
She’s looking incredible after her recent weight loss...
John: She looks like she’s getting younger by the day. We’re her hype men. We’re rooting for her. But no matter what weight she is, she always brings that energy. , and we’re Charlie – she’ll call us and say, “I need you!” So we hop on the train to hers. Now we just need our driving licence.
So what’s next for Jedward?
John: We’ve written 60 songs in the last two years and filmed a bunch of TV shows that haven’t aired yet. We’ve got festivals and live dates coming this year, but we’re also exploring solo projects. We’d like to try comedy – Ricky Gervais had a pop career and didn’t start comedy until he was 37. Then perhaps we’ll start our own Big Brother-type reality show. We’ll cast it with great celebs, it’ll be called Safe Space, and have toast sculptures!
Celebrity Big Brother airs weeknights at 9pm on ITV1 and can be streamed on ITVX, STV and STV Player
