Easter Monday weather to bring 'mixed fortunes' today as parts of UK battered by downpours

The UK will experience a “mixture” of fortunes today with part of the country and others in for a sunny . Several areas of the nation experienced grey skies and rain yesterday, with sunshine also playing a part in the afternoon as people enjoyed the day.

However on the last day of the bank holiday some patchy rain is set to move across the country with Northern Ireland and South West England in for a soaking. The North of England, particularly the North West, will have the best of the day’s sunshine although the rest of the country will experience light winds as people make the most of the day before going back to work on Tuesday.

Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said over the Easter weekend would bring “mixed fortunes”.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Skeates added: "Things probably turn a little more unsettled again on Monday, with outbreaks of rain/showers in the south and west.

“[They will] tend to spread northwards and perhaps become heavy at times, though there is currently a lot of uncertainty in the details.

“Easter Sunday looks to be the widely drier day of the weekend. Cloud amounts will vary, but most places should see some bright or sunny spells at times. Parts of the far south and west may remain cloudier with a few showers around. Temperatures look generally close to the seasonal average.”

The said in its forecast for Monday: “Easter Monday starts bright in some eastern and northeastern areas.

“Showery outbreaks of rain elsewhere, locally heavy with some thunder possible. Rather cloudy with rain continuing eastwards, sometimes heavy and thundery over England in the afternoon.

“Sunny spells and showers follow into western regions. Temperatures mostly around the seasonal norm.”

The highest temperatures expected for Bank Holiday Monday are around 21C.

Meanwhile Britain is with summer-like temperatures on the way - but not everyone will be basking in the warmth. New maps show an area of warm air sweeping into the UK just in time for the on May 5.

The mercury is set to peak in , where it is forecast to reach 22C, while people living in the southeast are also set to enjoy the heat, according to WXcharts. However, many other areas will miss out on the 72-hour hot spell around , with temperatures stubbornly remaining in the mid-to-high teens.

Regions including Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, and North, West, East and South Yorkshire, are all predicted to miss out.
