What are the symptoms of varicose veins?

This problem has been seen in 2 percent to 30 percent of adults, and women are more likely to suffer from it. Its symptoms include heaviness in the legs, pain, burning or throbbing sensation, itching, restlessness, swelling, leg cramps, and in severe cases, wounds or ulcers. Experts from Taiwan's Chung Shan Medical University said that feeling too cold can also be an important symptom, but it is usually ignored.

Research published in the journal Open Heart found that people who feel cold feet are 49% to 89% more likely to have varicose veins than normal people. It was also found that people who feel both cold and heaviness in their feet are even more likely to have varicose veins.

Standing for long periods of time can be dangerous

People who have long standing jobs have a 45% higher risk of developing varicose veins. "Our study found moderate to severe cold sensitivity in the lower legs, which has been underreported as a personal experience associated with varicose veins until now," said Yung-Po Liaw from the university's team in his article.

8,782 people aged between 30 and 70 years were included in this research. Out of these, 676 people had moderate or severe varicose veins. They were asked how cold they feel in their feet and how heavy they feel in their legs.
