Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) was honored with the opportunity to present its achievements related to the ‘Water Plus’ certification at a state-level residential workshop held at YASHADA, Pune. The workshop, organized by the Urban Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra, was chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
During the workshop for Municipal Commissioners and Chief Officers, NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde delivered an insightful presentation titled ‘Water Plus – Efficient and Sustainable Sewage Treatment and Reuse’. The presentation showcased Navi Mumbai’s innovative practices and infrastructure aimed at enhancing water sanitation and reuse efficiency.
Key Highlights Of The Presentation
Key highlights of the presentation included the management and availability of public and community toilets, prioritization of household toilet construction, development of aspirational toilets under the 3R framework (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and advanced water supply management using the SCADA system. Dr. Shinde also emphasized the city's 24x7 water supply planning, sewerage and sewage treatment systems, tertiary treatment plants, and reuse of treated water.
Further, the Commissioner detailed initiatives such as clean reservoir and drain management, the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge with increased mechanization, and various welfare schemes for sanitation workers.
The presentation positioned Navi Mumbai as a model city in terms of water and sanitation management, earning accolades at the state level for its sustainable and efficient approach, a statement released by NMMC said.
