Badnawar (Madhya Pradesh): A 24-year-old factory worker died during medical treatment following an alleged assault, triggering protests as her body was returned to Badnawar Hospital on Sunday.
Seema Banjara, a resident of Harkajhar village in Sangvi Gram Panchayat, was reportedly assaulted by a coworker at her factory workplace two days prior. Witnesses say there was also a dispute involving female workers. Though Banjara returned home that evening, she collapsed the following morning.
After being rushed to Badnawar Hospital by ambulance, doctors provided initial treatment before referring her to Ratlam Medical College as her condition deteriorated. She died there overnight. Family members initially took her body directly to their village without notifying authorities about the assault. However, before proceeding with funeral arrangements, they brought her remains back to Badnawar Civil Hospital, accompanied by numerous villagers who then informed police.
Officers registered a case and arranged for a panel of doctors to conduct a postmortem examination before releasing the body to relatives.
Throughout the afternoon, concerned villagers gathered at both the police station and the factory, demanding compensation and action against those responsible for the assault. Town Inspector Amit Singh Kushwaha and Tehsildar Suresh Nagar arrived with police personnel to address the situation. The crowd dispersed after counselling from officials.
