The accused in the Vadodara car crash, Rakshit Chaurasia, was under the influence of drugs, the police said on Friday as reported by NDTV. On March 14, the 20-year-old law student rammed a speeding car into two-wheelers, killing one woman and injuring several others.
The primary report of Gandhinagar's Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) reportedly said that after testing the accused's blood samples, it was found out that he was not drunk but had smoked marijuana, reported the media house quoting police officials.
Notably, apart from Chauraisa, his co-passenger, Praanshu Chauhan, and another friend, Suresh Bharwad, also tested positive for marijuana. The incident had sent shockwaves across the nation.
All three accused have reportedly been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, has been invoked against Chaurasia. Under this section, it is a criminal offence to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"We received the result of the three blood samples today, which showed positive for drugs. They were driving the car after smoking marijuana. We have arrested Rakshit Chaurasia's co-passenger and the third accused will be arrested soon," Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4, Panna Momaya said.
The accident occurred around 12.30 am on March 14 near Muktanand crossroads in the Karelibaug area following which Chaurasia was arrested. A video of the incidents also went viral on social media. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle took a sharp turn, which caused it to hit the two-wheeler. The CCTV footage shows that the car was at high speed.
