If there's one fight that every couple living together is bound to have, it's on the temperature of the thermostat. While films have shown this is a common point of contention between couples, Michelle Obama 's statement on the same has just proved that it is a quarrelsome reality.
The former first lady appeared on Amy Poehler 's "Good Hang" podcast on Tuesday and shared that one repeated bedtime "battle" she had with her husband Barack, was over the thermostat. The pair discussed being "at that age", where their sleeping temperature is vitally important.
"Sometimes I get in the bed, and I'm freezing. Other times, it's like, 'Oh my God, take my skin off,'" said the 61-year-old.
“It’s a battle with a partner because he’s always cold, and I’m like, ‘Do not touch [the thermostat].’ Sometimes I wake up hot, and I’ll wake him up [to ask], ‘Did you touch the thermostat? You touched it, didn’t you?” she admitted.
She shared how Barack is now scared of the thermostat and replies, "I didn't, I swear".
Just like any other married couple who fights over the temperatures of the thermostat, one of the two has to compromise, which in this case is Barack. Michelle shared how she likes "cool sheets" and a 68-degree bedroom and thus she just tell Barack to "put on some socks" when "he's freezing" at night.
Michelle Obama's love for bedtime
The conversation about the battle sparked when Michelle Obama shared her "embarrassing" love for bedtime which makes her "giddy." She shared how she likes to finish dinner by 6:30, have some "catch-up conversations" and "together time" with Barack and then begin "thinking about bed" around 8 pm or "as soon as [she] can."
"My head hits the pillow, and I'm out. I don't need an aid. I just need to put my head on the pillow," she added.
Michelle Obama's wedding deal with Barack Obama
Ahead in the episode, Michele revealed a deal she made with Barack during their wedding in October 1992. "I can tease [him], but [he] cannot tease me," she revealed. She revealed how she and her daughters, Malia and Sasha, "mercilessly go after" Barack, as teasing is their love language.
“When all of us are together, he doesn’t stand a chance. … I tell him, ‘When I tease you, it’s like a love tap,'” she added.
While speculations about the couple getting divorced have been moving around for some time, Michele has been clapping back at the rumours with her interview, where she has been more open about the relationship she shares with her husband and the family in general.
