Equity mutual fund inflows dropped nearly 3% month-on-month to Rs 24,269 crore in April, compared to Rs 25,082 crore in March, as investors shifted preference towards debt mutual funds.
Debt mutual funds, which saw an outflow of Rs 2.02 lakh crore in March, recorded an inflow of Rs 2.19 lakh crore in April.
Among the 11 sub-categories of equity mutual funds, all except ELSS funds recorded inflows in April. Flexi-cap funds remained the top choice, attracting the highest inflows of Rs 5,541 crore, slightly down from Rs 5,615 crore in March. Small-cap funds ranked second, garnering inflows of nearly Rs 4,000 crore during the month.
Sectoral and thematic funds witnessed a sharp surge in inflows, receiving Rs 2,000 crore in April compared to just Rs 170 crore in March. Meanwhile, ELSS funds saw an outflow of Rs 372 crore in April, reversing an inflow of Rs 735 crore in March and widening from an outflow of Rs 144 crore in April 2024.
