According to Hindu beliefs, auspicious activities should be avoided during the Bhadra Kaal, as it is considered inauspicious. For this reason, tying Rakhi during Bhadra on Raksha Bandhan is traditionally discouraged. It is important, therefore, to consider the Bhadra timing while planning the celebrations. Here’s a detailed look at the auspicious timings and whether Bhadra will impact the festival this year.
When Will Raksha Bandhan Be Celebrated in 2025The full moon (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Sawan will begin on 8 August at 4:12 PM and end on 9 August at 1:24 PM. As per the convention of observing festivals based on the sunrise timing (Udaya Tithi), Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Saturday, 9 August 2025.
On this day, the auspicious time to tie Rakhi will be from 6:17 AM to 1:24 PM.
Bhadra Timing on Raksha BandhanIn 2025, Bhadra will end before sunrise on 9 August. Therefore, there will be no impact of Bhadra on Raksha Bandhan this year, making the entire morning window ideal for Rakhi celebrations.
Additional auspicious timings on 9 August include:– Brahma Muhurat: 4:48 AM to 5:32 AM
– Abhijit Muhurat: 12:17 PM to 1:08 PM
– Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga: 6:17 AM to 2:23 PM
On this day, sisters perform a ritual to tie Rakhi to their brothers during the auspicious window. It is also considered highly auspicious to offer Rakhi to one’s Ishta Devta (personal deity). The ritual typically involves a puja thali containing roli, chandan, Rakhi, a ghee lamp, sweets, and akshat (rice grains). Sisters apply a tilak using roli and akshat on their brother’s forehead, tie the Rakhi on his wrist, and offer sweets. In return, the brother touches her feet and gives her a gift as a token of love and respect.
Sacred Mantra for Raksha BandhanReciting a specific mantra while tying the Rakhi is believed to enhance its protective power and strengthen the bond between siblings. The mantra is as follows:
“Om yena baddho Bali Raja danavendro mahabalah,
tena tvam abhi badhnami raksha ma chala ma chala.”
This ancient chant is believed to invoke divine protection, as it was once used to bind the mighty King Bali.
