Kalaburagi (Karnataka) [India], May 21 (ANI): Sharply criticising Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's comments on Operation Sindoor, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Wednesday said that Congress is unnecessarily questioning the actions of the armed forces even after government and the top army officials clearly elaborated on how Operation Sindoor was carried out.
"Mallikarjun Kharge is a very senior leader yet he is making such unwanted remarks. More than 100 terrorists have been killed by our armed forces, our government explained them how armed forces carried out operations yet they are questioning the actions of the army," Narayanaswamy told ANI.
Terming Operation Sindoor a "small war", Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday attacked the government over its response to the US claims about mediation between India and Pakistan and said "it has not providing clarity to the people of the country regarding US President Trump's statements."
Speaking at the Samarpana Sankalpa Samavesh rally in Karnataka's Vijayanagara, Kharge alleged that intelligence agencies had prior information about a possible attack in the region and questioned why tourists were not informed.
Earlier on Tuesday, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy also rebuked Kharge's description of Operation Sindoor as a "small war," calling it an insult to the valour and sacrifice of the armed forces.
He accused the Congress president of attempting to diminish the courage, capability, and strategic strength of India's soldiers by downplaying the operation. Kishan Reddy added that it was "baffling" that Congress leaders were disturbed when the world was praising India's counter-terrorism efforts.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the elimination of over 100 terrorists. On May 10, both countries agreed to cease hostilities. (ANI)
