Repo rate cut expected.
The meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee i.e. MPC of RBI is going to be held between June 4 and 6. RBI had earlier cut the repo rate by 0.25 percent in February and then in April this year. After another cut, it is believed that it will boost Indian GDP despite the global uncertainty created by the increase in US import duty. It is worth noting that the six-member monetary affairs committee MPC headed by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra takes this decision.
What do the experts say?
Market experts are looking at the RBI meeting with great hope. Bank of Baroda Chief Economist Madan Sabnavis says that due to inflation being under control and the liquidity situation being made very comfortable through various measures of RBI, MPC will cut the repo rate by 0.25 percent on June 6.
Aditi Nair, Chief Economist of rating agency ICRA, says that with CPI (Consumer Price Index) inflation expected to remain at 4 percent for a large part of the current financial year, monetary easing by the MPC is likely to continue. She believes that a 0.25 percent reduction in the repo rate is expected next week, followed by two more cuts in two policy reviews. This will make the repo rate 5.25 percent by the end of the cycle.
