Instagram is back with another exciting update aimed at making your Reels experience even more interactive and fun. The platform has unveiled a brand-new feature called ‘Blend’, which allows users to watch and discuss Reels with their friends directly in the app.
What is ‘Blend’ and How Does It Work? The new Blend feature is somewhat inspired by Spotify’s Blend playlist concept. However, instead of music, it revolves around Instagram Reels — those short, engaging videos that have taken over our social feeds.
To use this feature, go to the Direct Message (DM) section of your Instagram app. There, within your one-on-one or group chats, you’ll see a new Blend icon. Tapping on it will create a personalized Reels feed.
Curated Reels Based on You and Your Friends’ InterestsWhat makes this feature stand out is how it tailors content. The Reels shown in a Blend are based on videos that you and your friends have liked, shared, or watched. This means that your feed will be filled with content that both you and your friend enjoy.
Each Blend feed is unique to the DM thread, so you’ll see different Reels depending on which friend or group you’re chatting with. Plus, the feed refreshes daily, ensuring fresh content every time you visit.
Making Social Viewing More Fun and PersonalInstagram started testing the Blend feature back in March with a limited group of users. After receiving positive feedback, Meta is now expanding it to more users globally.
This move is part of Meta’s broader strategy to make video consumption more social and personalized. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through Reels, you now have a shared space to laugh, react, and talk about your favorite clips with your friends — all within the app.
The Future of Instagram Reels Looks More ConnectedWith Blend, Instagram aims to bridge the gap between content discovery and social interaction. It’s no longer just about what the algorithm serves you; it's also about what your friends are loving.
So next time you’re on Instagram, head over to your DMs and give Blend a try. It might just become your new favorite way to explore Reels — together.
