A couple on Escape To The Country made a heartbreaking admission at the start of Monday's show.

During the latest instalment, viewers were introduced to couple Victoria and Barry from Essex who were hoping to find a new home in Scotland's Perth and Kinross with a big garden, good transport links and a rugby club within half an hour.

The couple, who have three children and a dog, were hoping to find somewhere quieter and not on a busy road with a budget of £420,000. Victoria opened up about their current situation, confessing: "We want somewhere to be proud of when we invite people over and at the moment we just don't feel like we can do that."

Presenter Steve Brown was on a mission to find them the perfect property, and it was the final 'mystery house' in Monikie, Angus, that captured their hearts. This charming gate house to the country park, dating back to 1896 and priced at £349,000, featured four double bedrooms, ample garden space, and generous reception areas.

The family was taken by the home's historic charm, spaciousness, and breathtaking views. An ecstatic Victoria expressed her joy at the discovery, saying: "It's definitely somewhere that we would feel proud for people to come to us."

In a heartwarming conclusion to the show, viewers discovered that Victoria and Barry had successfully sold their Essex abode and were on their way to owning the mystery house, reports .

Presenter Steve shared the good news: "Victoria and Barry took the children back to see the house the very next day. I'm happy to report, they've had their offer accepted. I know they're going to love living there and we wish them every success for their new lives in ."

It comes as The Chase star Jenny Ryan has confirmed she is still searching for a new house despite falling in love with a cottage on BBC's Escape to the Country. Eager to move "back home" to the country near Bolton, Jenny and her boyfriend Thom got help from presenter Jules Hudson to find their dream rural escape on Celebrity Escape to the Country.

After moving to London to chase TV stardom and joining the ranks of The Chase, the quiz whizz made the capital her base. But it was a charming Lancashire cottage featuring stunning woodland, good transport and travel connections for shooting The Chase, that caught the couple's eye.

Jenny later told her followers she didn't manage to snap up the stone cottage after all. As she asked for another look, the house was snapped up by another buyer, leaving Jenny to quip "the search continues".

Escape To The Country continues on weekdays at 3pm on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
